Hi gang. Did the Russian Jaeger regiments in the 1812-1815 period carry regimental flags?
Thanks.

Forgive me but unless you are Czar Alexander 1st I'm afraid I can't consider you a reliable source. :)

Russian Army Jäger first received flags in late 1827 and early 1828 (after Alexander's reign).

The Life-Guard Jäger was awarded awarded three St. George's banners (one per battalion) with the inscription "For distinction during the defeat and expulsion of the enemy from Russia in 1812" on 13 April 1813 (delivered 24 December 1813 in Saint-Petersburg).

The Life-Guard Finland regiment (classified as light infantry) was awarded three St. George's banners (one per battalion) with the inscription "For distinction during the defeat and expulsion of the enemy from Russia in 1812" on 13 April 1813 (delivered 24 December 1813 in Saint-Petersburg).

The Life-Guard Volyn regiment (classified as light infantry) received two white-cross banners (one per battalion) at the time of the regiment's formation at the end of 1817. These were replaced by an award on 18 October 1818 by two St. George's banners with the inscription "For distinction during the defeat and expulsion of the enemy from Russia in 1812".

Perhaps oddly, Russian Jäger battalions (even though they had no flags), still formed a "Banner Group" (to guard the commander ? to preserve spacing/pacing ?) :

UYU

UYU

Y = Портупей-юнкеръ / Portupey-yunker / Banner Sergeant (an Officer Aspirant)
U = Младшій унтеръ-офицеръ / Mladshiy unter-ofitser / Corporal (typically the companies' Quartermaster Corporals)
--- = empty rank

I am not an expert on anything Napoleonic, but I do not think the Jaeger battalions carried flags until later…at least in Borodino I did not think they carried them.

Chapter XI. Of The Line

Section 7. March in Line

Page 409

March in Line of the Russian Infantry.

The colour-bearer who is in the centre of the battalion, the two serjeants on each side of him, and the captain of the fifth platoon, all move six paces to the front; the dressing is by the centre; the colour-bearer marches on two given objects; the perpendicular is besides secured by three non-commissioned offices who, behind the centre, cover each other after the manner of the French (fig. 310): those markers, or _jalonneurs_, are situated and regulated by the adjutant who steps in rear of them; the colonel is in front; the major watches the interval towards the battalion of the direction. The advance is practised both in the quick as well as the ordinary time.

I had been told and read, no flags as well. My Jaegers have none.

Soon to see my Guard Jagers have a couple

@14Bore

You can give them the ball finial with the 2-headed eagle.

Black woodwork. One banner per battalion.

But ….
It is rather unlikely that the new guard flags were delivered to the regiments in the field before the peace in 1814 – and – the Guard Infantry divisions were not included in the 1815 Russian "expedition" to France. On these other hand, you are the "Tsar" for your Guard Jäger.

All 3 of my 3 battalion guard jagers have 1 flag a piece
