… to Soldiers

"Military rations have varied significantly over the years and often reflect the era in which they were produced. After a long day of tiring activities, rations can certainly raise spirits, but they are also known for being just… well… not very nice. In recent years rations have improved somewhat, especially in terms of longevity, but there are still many that some troops detest with a passion.

What was served for dinner?

Hell if I know, it will make a Bleeped text though.

I heard this countless times being relived for chow.

I used to get vintage ration unboxing videos in my YouTube feed. Somebody would have a standard or emergency ration from some 20th century conflict, open it to see what it contained, and how well or badly it had held up.

One particularly grody Vietnam Era ration meal had as its' main course some sort of runny pork and beans concoction that was, by reputation, particularly despised, and looked bloody awful.

I tried Ham & MoFos in the early to mid 1970's. I didn't think that they were that bad in taste. My approach to any canned foodstuff is that I never expect it to taste great. Anything that is better than or equal to "meh" is a win. I've eaten a bunch of army rations over the years and I haven't found any to be inedible (other than damaged ones). If you don't set your sights too high you'll never be disappointed…

My dad loved the ham and lima beans; he never had a problem getting extras. I think the spaghetti one was my favorite.
