Would love to know more about the tale told here. Then what is in his bag? Maybe wristwatches? Puttees I know were used right up to 1945 but I think unusual. The most disappointing thing is the cat. Very unrealistic. But the human figure is very well done Miniart produce superb figures in 1/35 scale and I have used a few for my 2eme DB larger models. Plus they are Ukraine based, so what is not to like? Maybe Ivan is saying "I wanna go home, I wanna go home etc" and, God Bless Him, I hope he can, in one piece, back to the Rodina. His grandchildren are saying the same now. |

If you look at photo #8, the cat looks better. I think it suffers from poor lighting. |

Seems that ol' Plotnikov has left a message for someone to write to him at mailstop 35769, as best I can follow it. Can't make out all the words, both from camera angles and my extra poor abilities and Cyrillic script (vs. print, at which my skills are poor enough). As to the "bag of wristwatches" -- it appears to be a typical Red Army knapsack, just in-hand rather than over the shoulder. As he wears no messkit or canteen, it probably contains at least a cup, as well as some extra clothing (foot wraps, underwear) maybe a bit of food (a bag of rice, a can of SPAM or a box of "Roosevelt's eggs"), a redimentary first aid kit, a gun cleaning kit, and whatever other personal possessions he may have. It does not appear he has a shelter half / cape, or a greatcoat, so he may also have some sort of jacket or sweater in the bag, although it does not seem to be bulky enough for that. Could be wrong. Be interested to see other readings. -Mark (aka: Mk 1) |
