I understand they were piped in the battalion or unit colors but does anyone know if they were garments of a uniform issue or were they homespun?

Also, were they basically solid colored or were they striped similarly to the French Goumiers chilabas or a mixture of both?

Hi Au Pas de Charge,

AFAIK usually Regulares wear olive green/brown fabric plain chillabas and Mehala striped brownish fabric or plain "chickpea"hue.
This could probably vary after month of campaigning but it could be a way to differentiate both formation in your collection or on the table. Or of course, you can mix both and and use the minis as either Mehala or Regulares.

Maybe Lluis from Minairons miniatures can give you more details.
