Hi there

I'm about to start on two projects. It was one but I ended up not being able to decide between 15mm Crimean ranges (18mm Eureka + Lancashire + others vs true 15mm Minifigs + Freikorp + others). The solution? Do Crimean War in 18mm with those lovely Eureka sculpts and Franco Prussian War with the nostalgically sculpted minifigs. Why make a decision?

So one problem solved but here is the next. The Eureka range is, like all other ranges, incomplete. The cavalry is very limited (no Russian Dragoons; no French cavalry other than Chasseurs d'Afrique). Looking at the cavalry it is very difficult to combine with other Crimean15/18mm as the horses are large.

Does anyone know of Crimean War ranges that match the Eureka sized horses? If not, is my best bet the buy AB 18mm napoleonic horses and mount them with 15/18mm riders? If that is the go, have any of you done that, and what riders have worked?

Have a look at Blue Moon miniatures.

Thanks. Good idea.

i had the same problem with my Eureka 18mm SYW back in 2010 . I find Old Glory infantry matched up OK with the Eureka, but their horses are tiny. I did buy some Lancahire games cavalry, which are passable if not directly next to the Eureka. Fortunately, the SYW ranges have been expanded in the intervening period.
For the Crimea, are any of the Napoleonics a close enough match? Might also be worth a look at 20mm ranges, those Eureka gphorses bare certainly big, significantly bigger than AB.

When I mentioned " Napoleonic Range", I was thinking of Eureka's own Napoleonics, which are available in Australia. No Russians though.

Thanks Steamingdave2. Your suggestion about the 20mm horses must have reached my subconscious as I checked out some RSM 20mm horses I had from a left over project. They are stationary (which I prefer to charging) and are a perfect match for the Eureka sculpts. I guess there could be other manufacturers.

Eureka is putting out a Russio-Turkish war range in 18mm which has some unmounted Russian Dragoon horses and horse holders. They seem promising too.

Sadly the Blue Moon horses are much smaller than the Eureka ones, for me at least, and I might pass on them.

My horses are pretty chunky chaps, the infantry are scaled height wise AB but I like my heavy horse to look like heavy horse, not ponies. link

Thanks Lancer58
The horses look terrific, and are stationary or walking, something sorely missed in my view. Very valuable contribution for me as I would not have thought of your range.
