Is there a list of air to air combat for the jet age? Looking for some interesting and nice aerial combat post-WW2. We all know of the major ones: Korean War, Vietnam War, Falklands, Gulf Wars, etc but a list that includes lesser known stuff big and small (Ogaden, Greeks/Turkish, Ertrea, etc)? Thanks! |

Recon birds/civilian aircraft vs. Russian interceptors. Pretty one-sided affairs, so not too interesting I suppose, except perhaps as solo affairs, but a number of US recon birds and civilian airliners have been shot down by Russian jets, and/or SAMs. As mentioned, several Arab-Israeli wars and a "hot" peace with a number of battles. Egypt vs. Libya, Taiwan vs. China, Iran vs. Iraq, etc. |

South Africa vs Angola in the 1980s – Mirage F1s of the SAAF vs Angolan Mig 21s and Mig 23s. SAAF Impala attack jets versus Angolan Helicopters (MiMil24s and Mil8s) – the choppers lost! |

You could play the Beqaa Valley in 1982. Have the Syrian players roll a D100 and on the roll of.a 1 they shoot down an Israeli aircraft. On any other result the Syrian aircraft is shot down! |

Definitely read Clashes: Air Combat Over North Vietnam, 1965-1972 by Marshall L. Michel III. Loads of detail. I'm not sure you can get anything like that level of detail about other jet-age air wars, and it gives you a lot of context about what's important and what's not and how things unfold. |

Offshoot of the topic: What are good jet age rules? I've got 1/300 planes so that's my scale. Does CY6 Jet age rules cover it fine or are there other favorites? |

Offshoot of the topic: What are good jet age rules? Striker: I use Wings At War, usually Flames Above Falklands or Thud Ridge. I have also heard good things about Missile Threat although I have never played them. Definitely read Clashes: Air Combat Over North Vietnam, 1965-1972 by Marshall L. Michel III. Andrew Walters: thanks for the recommendation! I actually own that book but have never read it. I have aircraft for Vietnam (planning to use Thud Ridge) but have yet to paint up my American planes. Thanks for all the input, much appreciated. Tgerritsen: the list you provided is fantastic. |

CY6 has a large following. AirWar:C21 is another good one too. For older jet actions, 1970s and earlier, Clash of Sabres is good too, though it may be hard to get these now – QRF used to sell them. I proposed some stats for early to mid-1980s jets so you could game the Falklands Conflict and Iran vs. Iraq too. |

Thanks for the rules recommendations. I've got CY6 and am about to get Airwar:C21. Got a bunch of planes for India-Pakistan and will probably do Iran-Iraq. |

I really like C21. The combat system for it is very good, and the other stuff is acceptable. A simple system with decent granularity, permitting quick play with multiple aircraft. |
