…from a different perspective
By Peter Watts.
Another rediscovery of one of my favorites:

Fantastic, thank you so much for the link! One of the plot holes I had trouble with was why the Thing had arrived in an advanced spaceship then became this mindless murderous monster. There was no motivation for the Thing you couldn't even chalk it up to hunger in the movie. The Thing could have assimilated one man, read his mind and pretended to be him until the researchers returned to civilization. Instead, it goes on a murderous rampage for no apparent reason.

They should have made this a movie instead of a remake.

Peter Watts wrote some great SF novels.
Have a look at Blindsight – On Goodreads-com

Dragon gunner
You assume the spaceship was built by the things species,
The alien who owns the ship may have been trying to kill the thing.
The thing is merely spreading its self!
More hosts less whiteness,it is in a remote part of the world doesn't need to play it cool.

Eventually we'll have The Thing vs. Alien crossover.

The Thing absorbs the Alien, then dies from massive Alien acid-blood heartburn… ;-)
