The old bottles of this excellent lacquer based matt varnish had a pink label. The new?? ones appear have a blue label and are called Dullcote Top Coat. Can anyone tell me whether the blue label stuff is the same as the trusty pink label Dullcote?

If you mean the spray cans I see no difference in the new ones. I have used several spray cans in the new labels. Rustolem seemed to have bought out the Dullcoat from Testors. I still swear by it.

I think he means the brush-on lacquer.

I can't comment on the fluid. I've had the same pink bottle of Dullcote Lacquer for over 20 years, and it will go bad before I use it up. It reflows too many of my acrylics, so I very rarely find a use for it that doesn't ruin a paint job. The noxious odor also makes it an outdoor-only application for me.

I use this stuff. It's acrylic and doesn't ruin the underlying paint job.

Sorry, I did mean the brush on stuff as per the 2 pics above. I use it over a coat of humbrol gloss varnish to give a matt finish on my figures. My son overseas was only able to get the blue label topcoat. So I'm hoping someone can tell me if that topcoat will work as well as the older pink label stuff as a brush-over matt varnish?

Call or email Testors? Did you check any model-building sites for articles or reviews?

To be clear, Rust-Oleum owns Testors. They have been reorganizing and discontinuing products since 2020. The Model Master line is being discontinued, but as of now, they plan to continue Testors-branded products, including Dullcote.
