Why do sculptors often create figs 'throwing Grenade'… but with no other weapon? Surely, 'slung'… or laid down on base? And, if designated 'Bomb Throwers'.. should have a Bag of the things? Plus a PP weapon? |

Well, holding a weapon while pulling a grenade pin would be a bit awkward, especially if speed is of the essence (no time to sling your weapon.) And pulling a grenade pin with your teeth, not a good idea… ;-) |

To throw a bomb any distance is aided by having put a rifle et al to one side. Most bomb throwers throw their bombs and then get back into cover for another bomb rather than standing about observing how it went. Photos bear this out. During the SCW bombs were often held in cylindrical containers as shown on Peter Pig figures. Hope that casts light?

Just from curiosity… which' Movies' show pulling a pin with Teeth? No… standing around for a look NOT a good idea. lol. It just 'grates' somehow to have otherwise unarmed figs mixed in with others. I have purchased loose rifles, etc. to add to some figs but adding slings would be beyond me! As a lol… have just been watching a TV Series where, YET AGAIN!… Grenades detonate with 'fireballs' and destructive power pf an Arty round… 'Firefights' were good… BUT… :( |

If I had to hazard a guess, I'd say it's because of problems presented by sculpting, moulding and casting such a pose with a weapon held naturally. A lot of manufacturers tend to produce miniatures that are a little 'flat' and have their limbs arranged more or less around a single 'plane', etc. I've always assumed that was because it makes them easy to remove from the mould in a single piece, etc. A natural-looking throwing pose combined with holding a rifle as you might expect during a throw would probably require casting the hand with rifle separately or something. People more experienced with sculpting, casting, etc could probably give you more insight. |

True about 'flat' figs. But take a gander at the 'very old' Airfix WW1 German Infantry grenade thrower! Can't get much more dynamic than that! But no slung rifle! Shame stick Grenade was not in wide use until 1915 / 16! when Pikelhaube was going out…lol! But full marks for trying, sculptor and Airfix, way back then! The Later German WW2 German Infantry set also had a pretty hood grenade throwing fig… AND WITH A SLUNG RIFLE! People now tend to knock Airfix… in the main, because 1/76… but a lot of excellent figures in their 'high period'. |
