Hi I am looking for some pics and info on the Greek military Pre war and the early WWII Vehicles. The license plates and numbers on the vehicles. I know they received a lot of British Vehicles when the war started. But they had some Italian, German, French and British before the war started. As i want to get some decals made for my 28mm/1/56 Greek force. I have not been able to find much on this. Thanks Barry |

Here are some Greeks on the Albanian front, 1940. Chevy truck with no apparent markings – or at least not a license plate I can read.

There is also this book (maybe a bit later than you want), if you can find a copy: link |

I have a photo of a Mercedes LG 65 3 six-wheel truck in a Greek parade before the way. I think it has a license plate under the radiator, but I can't read what it says. Maybe it has nine characters, maybe not. A lot of Greek vehicles were requisitioned into army service and probably retained their civilian markings. I once asked if the L3 tankettes did anything about the Centauro division marking and insignia and was told they did not--they didn't even paint over the centaur horse archer the Italians used. I seem to have lost my links when I got a new computer last fall, however, I'd be happy to email you the photo, if you email me at edgington52 at comcast dot net. Grelber |
