I really like the trading post.
We have a reconstructed trading post from a later period a couple hours drive from where I live. Bent's Fort used fur around the windows and doors to seal them against winter winds, rather than just the bare wood, and now I'm wondering how to model that.

Cotton wool teased out and smeared, sparingly, with some kind of adhesive; when in place and dried, paint and dry-brush to accord with whatever animals you intend the fur to have belonged to, once.
