III had all three possible rounds taking place after everyone's tactical combat rounds whereas V has bombardment before any combat, in the middle, and at the end? Subject to good enough dice throws. V's mechanism only enables a first round of bombardment prior to close combat if you throw high dice (with modifiers) which I have to say greatly favours the French and their allies. Surely Defenders (usually non French) should be able to bombard as the Attackers (usually the French) advance on the defenders position as it were as the attacker has made their Grand Tactical Movement.
Would the answer be to reverse the V's rule that if you throw badly and you will at least get one round before close combat as the attacker has advanced? Comments please. | | 14Bore | 10 Jul 2022 3:24 a.m. PST

I play III with bombardment at end, but see why they changed it to interspersed the whole hour round.Without knowing 5 your premise sounds responsible.

We do not allow engaged MEs to bombard each other which takes care of many of those considerations. As for the placement, the French artillery was renowned about Europe so I don't have a problem with it.
