Looking for round bases suitable for 28mm command on horse, what size(s) do you recommend and where to buy them in USA? thanks.

Recreational Conflict has Proxie Model round bases from 20mm to 120mm. Solid plastic, lightly textured and about 2mm thick for smaller bases up to about 3-4mm thick for larger. $3.40 USD per package plus priority mail.

Phalanx Consortium – Great service and easy to deal with.
Size depends on the manufacturer and the number of figures you intend to put on the base.

Litko Aerosystems will sell you whatever diameter you want, and offers various thicknesses. But I refuse to recommend a size until you tell me what you want to put on the base. Will the commander have an ADC? An escort? If it's just the commander, I'd consider a 1"x2" with rounded corners rather than a round base.

I am considering basing the "big boss" with ADC and the others single in a smaller base. My figures are Old Glory's 25's mounted on horses.

A second recommendation for Litko. They produce many different sizes in various materials and thicknesses. I use them for my 28mm command bases.

Amazon has lots of mdf circles. Just make sure you get ones that are thick enough.

I have good luck with this guy:

I use metal washers. You can get them in many sizes and much cheaper.

OSCS7409 Jul 2022 7:06 p.m. PST

I use Phalanx Consortium

Zinc plated fender washers from Lowes. Either 1.5" or 2" depending on level of command.

Yes Doug MSC in Empire Rules you don't need round bases but all my trees are based on UK 2pence pieces which stops them falling over. Washers would have worked just as well.

Can't you base figures on thick card and just cut them out of a sheet of thick cardboard. Year ago are small circle of gamers joked and pulled the leg of one of our members who based his figures on cut up beer mats (which were thicker in those days!) Carlsberg Infantry or Heineken Light Cavalry etc.

Another excuse for an end of battle de-brief in a pub or bar over a couple of beers. The look on the face of the barmaid as she quizzed him as he put everyone's beer mats in his pocket was priceless. Having explained she walked away shaking her head all her beliefs in grown men playing with toy soldiers having been justified!

The wooden stirrers in any coffee house chain….

Back in the LOTR days it took hundreds to make the Golden Hall of Edoras, fistfuls when no-one was looking.

The clear round plastic lens covers off operating microscopes (when finished, after a good wash of course). The OR staff collected hundreds for me.

Thanks guys, for all the good advice. I will go with the Litko option at 40mm (1.5").

What is a fender washer and why are they called that? Wouldn't there be a problem with filling the hole with basing material?

My understanding Jim is that a fender washer is a larger diameter than a standard washer and typically used to secure sheets of metal.

Wargamers use them to base figures covering the hole with a piece of tape if the figures base does not.

Litko. Litko and Litko ….

Fender washers are ok too.

Called that because they are literally used to hold things like fenders in place. Lot of area, small hole.

And a dozen at least on Etsy.

DJCoaltrain14 Jul 2022 3:02 p.m. PST

I use Litko and Warbases.

Between the two I can find what I need. Neither has disappointed me these many years.
