I have made a gladiator arena for playtesting Blood on the Sands on and in the hope of doing some proper reports in the future.

There are some more details of the construction process on my blog:

Frank: that's really great work, a real gem.i like the idea of the half circle for the arena as it gives nice visual backdrop but allows you to move the miniatures properly.

I love it! If only I were so talented…

Thanks all.

@Gozerius – it is 28mm. I am in the process of filling the stands.

@Prince Alberts Revenge – yes playing games in a fully closed arena is a real pain in the subligaculum. It is basically just a glorified backdrop.

There is just something about gladiators that always attracts me. Even though I've bought, painted and sold three collections of them!

That looks great! The hex playing area reminds me of playing gladiator games with Ian Beck's 'Rudis' rules many years ago.

FrankFurt10 Jul 2022 1:15 p.m. PST

Thanks all.

@nnascati – yeah agreed. It is a fascinating subject and a great potential for wargaming.

@Badgerlock – This is for my own set called Blood on the Sands, but I certainly know of Rudis. I couldn't imagine a gladiator game done well without some kind of grid.

This is how gladiator games should be played. Let the games begin!

@Michael May – yes still in two minds to put up some awnings or not.
