i was posting in the general/flats subforum, but the subject also fits here -tmp has so many subforums with quite alot of overlapping themes

Finally got some time to make the Russian Jaegers – this is just a first set concept, as i plan to make also just 2 rank blocks and also some more poses for the skirmish groups – i think some with the side view would work also

also will make some jaegers with white trousers

The concept is interesting. I would probably base them on 2mm or 3mm MDF with some type of appropriate covering, or colour.

Looking at the line infantry you could almost glue a piece of balsa wood on the base and simply glue the pictures of the line infantry on the balsa wood. That may make it easier to create elements.

yes i think i would like to find a better basing option for these, – i am not familiar with mdf so will look into that. The line infantry blocks technically dont need bases reallly even, – i am just trying things out.

i have thought about balsa and though i am planning to make elements of all different sizes so am just focussing on that first. I would like to get the paper approach done first. I want to eventually put these on wargamevault for anyone interested, i will make them available as complete armies, perhaps no one will be interested but who knows. I am enjoying the process of making the art,

I have made russina line inf, grodno hussars, russian command elements, french dragoons, french inf and baden hussars so far (in various posts in teh Flats subforum), i have alot more to go!
more russian jaeger variations i want to do

I agree with pfmodel. It is an interesting concept, but the bases really detract from the look.

Well the bases aren't really essentially part of it, one could use any kind of base, but I will find something better for the next elements I make

Check our warbases, its a UK company that creates lazer cut bases of any size. There are other companies around but this company is the most flexible one i have ever found.

i did find a games company that does them here in australia "olympic games" and have a range of sizes and is more affordbale for me shipping wise, though they are 3mm thickness – do you think this is too thick for 6mm? (my figs are probably more like 7mm actually but thats neither here nor there)

Have you ever looked at Just Paper Battles, they seem to have a lot of printable material similar to this. It may assist you in your efforts.

As for base thickness. If its easy to pick the bases up by the figure, or the paper figure, on the base, the thinner the better. If you need to pick the element up by the base you need at least 3mm, otherwise you will not be able to get our fingers around the base. This assumes you are not a 9 year old girl, in which case 2mm is ok for those little fingers.

All my 6mm figures use a 3mm thick base. All my 15mm figures use a 2mm thick base. If you get get based locally you are better off doing so.

I am familiar with just paper battles, I got some of there terrain and planned on getting their armies but then I bought the paper strength from the maker of Grand Manoeuvre and I liked his style that then got me onto then wanting to make my own versions, slightly different to his and I am making all the elements in a variety of forms, as I like combining them. Also he has only drawn his figures using some basic paint program and I didn't like the look of some – the shakos for his figures look more like black chef hats and his cavalry is too big in comparison to the infantry.

Admin have had to sadly explain elsewhere, I am aware there are other paper armies out there and maybe they are better but this now is a project I am happily engaged in.
I had not put much thought into bases at this stage, but will do more thanks for you feedback.

I have done some revisions on the Jägers and the next batch i show will present better hopefully
