Deepest shipwreck ever, 4 miles down.

USS Gambier Bay still not located.

Amazing, and good to see it after all this time.

The very definition of 'brave'.

A fantastic book on the Battle off Sumar is The Last Stand of the Tin Can Sailors by James D. Hornfischer. Loaded with first-hand accounts.

The other three DEs often get the short end of the praise stick. They were in the grey too. Not to take away the heroics of the Roberts and the 3 Fletchers.

Even the Today Show carried the report with some amazing video of the wreck.

I've read The Last Stand of the Tin Can Sailors – excellent account of the action off Samar.

I always thought it was ironic, but illuminating, that the 1,350-ton Roberts had more advanced fire control radar than the Yamato, which was practically the only Japanese ship to have it at all.
