I purchased a couple of Victirx Napoleonic dragoon sets. I really liked their Old Guard lancers, so I wanted to give these a try.

Overall, I was pleased with them. They are, as are all Victrix figures, very delicate. Assembly is a challenge. But once assembled, they paint up nicely.

So how do they compare with the Perry plastic dragoons? I would say they match up pretty well. It seems to me the Perrys are a tad larger, but not enough to notice. While the Victrix horses are nicely animated, I like the Perry ones better. They are more compact (not smaller), which makes them easier to base.

I am glad I purchased the Victrix. They will comprise a third dragoon regiment of 18 figures for my collection. They provide some nice variety. However, the Perry dragoon set is one of the best deals out there as it includes dismounted dragoons AND several casualty figures which I have used in many ways.

I will let some pictures tell the rest.

I have not seen anyone post about Victrix and not mention how fiddly they are to put together, which is why I will never buy any. I don't want to spend that much time building models.

A good and balanced report. Thanks for posting it here.

Now get some Avanpost French dragoons and compare them to these 2 sets. :-)

Can I just second that, for any period and any scale?

Comparison pics are few and far between, but feature prominently on line. I cannot understand, therefore, why we do not see far more of them.

I do understand the argument that humans vary in their build, but not to the degree modelled in 20, 25 and 28mm especially. The weapons they carry, then, there is no excuse for the variation.

OK, I accept the definition of those "scales" ( as they are not scales strictly, in modelling of figures, thickness of bases, up to eyebrows, or top of heads etc) is oft debated.

Plastic Model Soldiers Review forum is great at this (and almost convinces me that they are worth considering, esp Zvezda at their best and before you know when by you know whom)
