And a little know fact. The Dutch Commander new Java was going to fall soon, but still made the USS Langley and oiler Pecos try to resupply Java with aircraft and US crews. Both ship were sunk will a high losses of life for no reason.

Interesting campaign in the Dutch East Indies … Like many of the European [and US] militaries they were not ready to fight a war.

In my view The Java Sea ( 1st Battle) is one of those encounters that the Allies would do far better on the table top . I just cant see the same mistakes being made.

Is it true that the US Navy cut off Java exports to Japan merely with the use of submarines, torpedoing steamers carrying rubber and the like?
