Last week I made some photos covering the royalist troops of the period until 1788 and found very detailed diagrams painted by Alfred de Marbot in 1854.

He depicted all infantry and cavalry regiments of the French army from 1779 to 1788 and as these may be of interest for the early republican armies I published the different captions of the diagrams in my uniform portal.
