Anyone have dates for when each of Eads' (Pook's) city-class riverine ironclads was completed/launched and/or reached Cairo?

According to Silverstone, Warships of the Civil War Navies, all 7 were commissioned between Jan 15 to Jan 31, 1862. They were built for the Army, then transferred to the Navy on Oct 1, 1862.

Thanks! Does it give a specific date for any of them? (Well, I assume 15 Jan for the first one, does it say which one that was?)

I believe the Cairo was first but don't hold my memory to that.

Well, I was just at Vicksburg last Friday! Cairo Museum had lots of info on this:

All were commissioned from January 15 to 31st, 1862.

The first 4 were built at Carondelet, and the other 3 at Mound City.

Cairo and Mound City were commissioned Jan 25, St. Louis Jan 31. Carondelet Jan 15, The rest were commissioned Jan 16.

So:

15 Jan 62 – Carondelet, at Carondelet

16 Jan 62 – 3 others – built at Carondelet

25 Jan 62 – Cairo and Mound City – built at Mound City

31 Jan 62 – St. Louis -- built at Mound City

Is that correct?

Unfortunately, the only time I was ever at Vicksburg, the Cairo had not been raised (or even found) yet.

Don,

That is correct.

Vicksburg has been on my bucket list for over 40 years and I finally got there! Well worth the trip.

The Cairo exhibit at Vicksburg is well done.
