You were asked – TMP link

Which was the best on the battlefield?

And in the final round of voting:

40% said "Georgy Konstantinovich Zhukov"
28% said "Vo Nguyen Giap"
6% said "Konstantin Konstantinovich Rokossovsky"

A dead communist general is the best one.

What a pathetic comment.

abelp0118 May 2022 9:17 a.m. PST

I assume you've never lived under communist rule, specifically the soviets,as I did or you wouldn't say something so stupid.

Choctaw18 May 2022 10:32 a.m. PST

Why is that a pathetic comment? Nothing wrong with wishing bad things to happen to the enemy.

Maybe you should both get up to date and realise that bad guys come in all political colours & shades, not just red.

Soviet Russia was one form of communism and probably better described as a dictatorship. It clearly had the support of its people in war as did the western alliance so why just target its generals.

It is pathetic because it is meaningless – try a more reasoned and less emotionally charged argument.

Acoomie's a commie, I don't give a poop what flavor they are!

Okay, reasoned argument.

The Soviet Union invaded Poland. They attacked Finland. They occupied the Baltic states. They slaughtered their way across eastern Europe and Germany. They enforced their communism on all of eastern Europe not allowing them freedom. So, a dead Communist general sounds pretty good to me.

"They slaughtered their way across eastern Europe and Germany"

Umm that might have had something to do with Nazi Germany and its East European Allies slaughtering their way eastwards across Russia.

Col Durnford19 May 2022 6:00 a.m. PST

Good point. While I'm no fan of moral equivalency, a dead nazi and a dead communist can both be held in the same low esteem.

Never said the Germans didn't. The response was to the comment made.
