My father was in the USAF and served at a radar outpost near Point Barrow, Alaska. He said several times polar bears wandered through the camp!

The people in Spitzbergen can't go outside without a rifle the bears are so aggressive

My cousin who lived in the Pocano Mtns of NY. Said some people would go out their front door to get in their car. But went back in and locked the door. A bear or bears would be lounging on the porch. They had to wait until the bear(s) moved on to get to their car.

Yes, I forgot how many bear attacks occur yearly …
