Good stuff! The rules seem very interesting – good to know they play well, too! |

The rules are not that hard per se, but its challenging in some ways. There are numerous erratas, and the sequence of play gets dicey – some players on the Facebook group had put together some sequence of play documents to try and help people figure out the proper sequence of things, but its tiresome. Some aspects of the game are neat, some are not. There isn't a whole lot of games of DFC being played as far as I can tell on the Facebook group, even pre-Covid things weren't that busy. Those round bases with dials are tricky to use, and there were aftermarket alternatives but they get pricy when you need a bunch of them. Ships do die fast though. :) |

I really wanted to like these rules, they had so many neat concepts in them. Unfortunately game play just felt a little boring, could never put my finger on exactly why. The fact that it was the fights on the planet instead of the fights in space that determined if you won or lost but the fights on the planet were basically risk definitely didn't help. Given I scratch build all my ships I used different coloured mini clothes pegs from the scrap book supply shop on the base stem as markers for all the things the dial base was meant to track and that worked pretty well.
