I am prevaricating on whether to 28mm or 15/18mm SYW. It always comes down to the best representation of the leaders. Who does the best Frederick the Great in 15/18mm? FM |

Good question, JB. Eureka doesn't specify a Fred figure, but the centre figure below would do the job. Blue Moon have a good command pack as well. However, there's no comparison between 28mm and 18mm figures when it comes to detail. Have a look at the Minden figures ( link ) to see what I mean- top notch! But a lot more expensive and they take up a lot more table space.

Thanks Dal, Yeah its a real quandary. I love the mindens so much but wallet groans. I will have to think about it further! |

For 15mm, Freicorps. They make exceptional Fredrick, Seydlitz, and Zeiten. |

I second the FREIKORPS set, they have real character. |

Here is a photo of the Freikorps figures. Currently listed as out of stock. Frederick is holding his cane/crop, and Seydlitz is portrayed smoking his pipe just prior to throwing it into the air after ordering the charge at Rossbach.

Minden and Crann Tara or my favorites in 1/56 which is about 28mm. The two ranges are compatible. Since they are anatomically correct, they don't take up as much space as other 28mm figures. Mine are based six figures in two ranks on 40mm square bases, four bases to a unit. |

@ Field Marshall- I went to 15's because my 25mm Minifigs and terrain were getting damaged and (rarely) destroyed each time we moved on posting. I don't regret all of it, mate, but when I see what the Perry, Fife and Drum, Cran Tara and Minden have released…. However, I have two small "skirmish" forces (Prussian and Grenze) of Mindens in my ever-expanding painting queue. (Though getting older means I won't do them justice when I do paint them.) So there's an option you could use to get some of both scales. @ dave8365- thanks for the photos. I haven't seen any Freikorps figures for 20 years. They are better than I remembered. @dbf1676, they are beautiful figures, I agree. But space, cost and 3000+ painted 18mm figures are big deterrents. If I may ask- how deep are your bases? Any pic's you'd care to share, mate? |

Field Marshal, if you're still dithering between 28mm or 15mm and still worried about your painting queue I have an abandoned 15mm SYW project that I ought to sell off at some point. It's both Prussians and Austrians and enough pro-painted for a game once a bit more has been based (and some Prussian artillery guns – not crews – acquired as I seem to have lost those). The figures are Old Glory 15s (one of their best ranges IMO). If interested in finding out more let me have your email and I'll send some photos. Please be aware it will be expensive even before shipping it around the world. |
