From a report 'Belarus, has a lot of tanks are being transferred towards Pinsk

This is the closest city to the border of Ukraine. Located in the direction of the cities of Lutsk and Rivne.'

They have also mobilized special operations forces on the border of Ukraine.

If the videos that have been captured on the rail going to Pinsk, this may have a Polish response as it would only be roughly under 250 KM from the Polish border.

Imminent buildup for invasion from this part of Belarus into Ukraine?

If they go anywhere, they will go in support the Russians, of course. But I'm pretty sure they are no better than the Russians

Attack Poland?

Garand10 May 2022 5:13 p.m. PST

I just looked up what Belarus has, & it's not much. Basically 4 mech brigades and…not a whole lot else. So if they do invade Ukraine, I am wondering what exactly they expect to accomplish? Draw forces away from the Donbass area?

Damon.

Probably just a feint to draw off Ukrainian forces.

Even worse. The Belarus military is led by even more corrupt regime sycophants than those in the Russian military -- with less training and less maintenance than the Russian military. The troops would be used purely for cannon fodder to die so Russian troops do not. And the conscript soldiers of Belarus know this -- which is why they've been hit with a wave of desertions and resignations.

Perhaps another front to drive down and try to shut off the transfer of weaponry into Ukraine from the west, and Western nations.

Cuprum210 May 2022 11:30 p.m. PST

If I remember correctly, Belarus attacked Ukraine along with Russia about three months ago. Or not?

Cuprum,

Some units did join in the terrorist attack on Ukraine, but this looks more like an end around to deploy in the rear of the Ukraine Divisions. If I were Poland or NATO, I would not take this lightly. Of course there are many units that are operating in Belarus that are anti-Russian/Belarusian parties. They will see the same fate as the thousands of Russians dead from their attack.

That may be one mission, but they only have 4 Mech Bdes. Again, probably no better than the Russians.

Probably just a feint to draw off Ukrainian forces.
Again, I'm thinking maybe ? Albeit it would be supporting Russian forces. However, they may be of better use to go in direct support of one of the 3-4 Russian axes of advance ? Which IIRC, aren't do very well. They still prove to be tactical & operationally marginal.

If it's not a feint, I would expect the Ukranians will know what to do and handle this bunch.

I'd take Ukrainian Reservists over Belorussian "Special Forces" any day.

dapeters11 May 2022 12:41 p.m. PST

I thought I remember reading about Belorussian volunteers crossing into Ukraine to fight the Russians, this could get awkward.

ROUWetPatchBehindTheSofa11 May 2022 2:38 p.m. PST

Yes there are Belorussian volunteers. So yeah awkward.

Belarus' military expenditure is less than the Republic of Ireland though they have considerably more active personnel at approximately 60,000, but most are conscripts. And I'd bet on them not being politically reliable! Lukashenko position seems less politically stable than Putin's in Russia.

I'd say Ukraine could hold them but it will divert resources and attention if the Belorussian conscripts do get thrown under the bus. Staging a build up is one thing but I wonder whether Lukashenko would really send them over the border? There are already Belarussians willing to commit acts of sabotage against their countries minor part in the invasion. Can he trust his military units entirely?

Uesugi Kenshin Supporting Member of TMP11 May 2022 3:17 p.m. PST

Yep, about 100 Belorussian Volunteers so far including 1 handsome Gentleman with an awesome Porn-stache.

Cuprum211 May 2022 7:26 p.m. PST

As far as I can tell, Belarus will enter the war if NATO troops appear in Ukraine.

Escapee Supporting Member of TMP11 May 2022 7:38 p.m. PST

Putin's only friend…maybe not even.

Dragon Gunner12 May 2022 9:11 a.m. PST

If they are smart, they will stay out of it. They should also think about switching sides and supporting Ukraine the way this thing is going. When this is over, they don't want to be in the North Korea, Russian crazy dictator hermit kingdoms pact.

Choctaw12 May 2022 11:11 a.m. PST

For the sake of Belarus they had better be ten times better fighters than the pathetic Russians.

Dagwood12 May 2022 1:11 p.m. PST

So if NATO troops enter Ukraine, Belarussian troops attack Ukraine. They are then exposed to NATO troops along all of their borders except the one with Russia. Bound to end well for Belarussia ?

Personal logo Legion 4 Supporting Member of TMP12 May 2022 1:16 p.m. PST

If NATO enters Ukraine, yes, Belarus may support Putin's Forces in a feint/deception op or directly to go in with Russian troops. To support their attacks ,etc. But again, I don't think the Belarus 4 Mech Bdes are any better than the Russians.

nickinsomerset14 May 2022 2:10 a.m. PST

Now being reported that Belarus is distancing itself from Spewtin's catastrophe!

Tally Ho!

TRAITORS!!!!

Next they want to join NATO and the EU!

Come on russia, just a little special military operation in the house of your little brother.
He no longer knows what he is doing, so help him!
It is your brotherly duty as a russian.
Belarus needs a firm hand!

Hardly surprising since Lukashenko must know that too some extent his fate is entwined with Putin's. Not entirely sure that short of packing a suite case full of cash and finding a country with as few a ties with Europe or indeed any other country there is much he can do. I hear NK is nice at this time of year! Might need some ear plugs for the coughing, though.

Personal logo Legion 4 Supporting Member of TMP14 May 2022 10:04 a.m. PST

Seems. anyone hitching their wagon to Putin may not get what they thought.
