This is a solo Optio game using a new counter system. Optio is an Ancients gaming system that does not use dice for combat and has completely original (yes, really!) command and control, movement and combat mechanisms. I spent years researching the armies Optio uses (even published a book on the topic – Ancient Battle Formations), to combine historical realism with gameplay. I think there is now a nice balance of the two. Enjoy! Oh, and playtesters welcome. Email me at justinswanton[at]gmail[dot]com if you're interested. I have created a VASSAL module of the gaming system that plays Early Rome, Republican Rome, Gaul, Spain, Carthage, Numidia, Greece, Macedonia, Achaemenid Persia and the Seleucid Empire.

As a BTW I use flats because I can print out and make up a complete army in a day or two for nothing, which does, from a practical POV, rather beat out buying and painting a whole lot of figures. And I live in South Africa where UK pounds murder the SA rand. And shipping is a killer. And I'm poor. So there. And as a second BTW I have an Optio forum with a lot of stuff on the gaming system. Maybe worth checking out. If you're interested in playtesting that's the best place to organise it. |
