A thousand years from now future archaeologists will conclude that our era was completely nuts. Nah….they'll just say that the inscribed message stones are "markers of ritual beliefs" and that the placement at the empty grave represented "the completion of a pilgrimage to a place of high spiritual and cultural significance." They'll probably hypothesize that the "liminal location – between land and sea – represented a sacred place between the lands of the living and the lands of the dead." Which pretty much nails it. |
