The Russian Military and leadership have proven to be marginal at best. But their ability to send troops, etc. into a meat grinder. Caring little for their own troops. As long as they have the ability to do this, hold parts of the Ukraine, the war will continue. Again, maybe the US and NATO should have sent more lethal equipment etc. sooner. And much that has been promised to the Ukraine still has not arrived. Looks like at this point Putin may hold the Donbas & Crimea. Peace talks are again being discussed. Which if Putin holds those parts of the Ukraine, he will claim "victory" … And start rearming & refitting for a future invasion of the Ukraine. May take a decade, or more. But they invaded in 2014, taking the Crimea. Now with this second invasion he will get the Donbas, etc. Nothing says the Russians won't invade again. Old habits are hard to break … |

No matter what weapons the Russians have they generally will be bested by many of the NATO, etc. weapons systems. And the Ukraine's tactical expertise plus the will to win. The USA's leadership was/is dragging its feet as they want to end the war with a negotiated peace. The Ukraine won't accept any peace that does not include all the Russian invaders out of their lands. That is a big reason the war is lasting so long. The US leadership does not want Ukraine to win. The US leaders just want it to end no matter how much of the Ukraine's terrain the Russians occupy. I.e. the Donbas and Crimea … Again, US leaders forgot or ignored history. As even GEN Grant had known about ending a war quickly. The sooner the war is over the sooner the loss of blood & treasure will end. However, don't throw the wheat out with the chaff … E.g. allowing Russia to occupy Ukrainian lands … |

Yes to do that, you need real aggressive leaders with the training, experience and knowledge of military history. With the will and ability to "take care of business". Again, in this case give Ukraine everything they need to push Russia off their land. The US & NATO do not even have to be involved with boots on the ground in the Ukraine. Just supply and train the Ukrainains. They will fight … And best the Russians in almost all engagements… But with the whole USA's top leadership wanting a negotiated peace. It will only set up events for a future conflict. To paraphrase Patton, "The politicians always leave us another war to fight." … |

I agree with Legion 4.
Since WW2 the western intelligentsia has had an obsession with negotiation, despite the fact that "negotiated peace" has, in almost all cases, produced a "frozen conflict" in which both sides stay ready to resume hostilities.
Rare exceptions, like Yugoslavia's breakup, are produced only by extreme imbalance: half of ex-Yugoslavia quickly scurried behind NATO's defensive wall, leaving Serbia unable to do much about it. Had it been otherwise, Bosnia, Kosovo, Montenegro and Croatia would now resemble Syria.
The ugly truth is that the only guarantor of peace outside of the "first world" is firepower. But polite people do not like to accept that, so they trumpet the virtue of the mythical negotiated peace. |

Yes, to paraphrase GEN Patton, "The politicians always leave us another war to fight!" … E.g. I spent 22 months in the ROK with a forward deployed Mech Bn. With 2 tours on the DMZ, '84-'85. The war was not over it is still only a truce, since '53. As we see many former WP joined NATO as soon as they could. When the USSR folded. Plus, currently even Finland and Sweden are new NATO members. And 4 out of 7 of the former Yugoslavia states joined NATO as well Guess the Russians are not liked very much by their neighbors or lands they formerly occupied. |

There were a couple of young guys near me and I decided to ask to the male … "Russians or Ukranians?"… he laught and said " Russians… but the good ones…".
The last statistic said that new 52.000 Russians now lived in Buenos Aires since this year only

As I posted on another thread here … As we know generally the Russian military is marginal at best … They can sit in their defensive positions behind a morass of minefields, IEDs, etc. But they will never have the troops, firepower, etc. to go on an effective offensive, IMO. Maybe they plan to sit there in defensive positions, behind massive minefields, obstacles, IEDs, etc. and toss FA, missiles, drones, etc. at the Ukraine. Until a brokered peace comes into effect. Which will in turn mean Putin holds the Donbas, the land bridge to Crimea and Crimea. Russia will claim a "win". Then use those areas as jump off points to invade Ukraine again i.e. 3.0. After the Russians build up their forces just for that reason. Which will take years. |

Well, they are running out of APCs, IFVs, etc. But as the article reported they are using the horses to transport supplies, etc. to areas that horses can traverse but other transport can't.
