Yeah, since Day 1 the Russians have not demonstrated that they can fight modern warfare. They try to make up their incompetence by throwing more bodies into the meatgrinder.

It's not pretty Legion, but after reading ISW's summary on Russia recruiting and unit rotations (much improved from summer 23) this bloody tactic may get them the win in the end. Or at least a negotiated peace where they keep Crimea and other Eastern areas of Ukraine.

At this point I believe that is their plan. They tried taking all of Ukraine and about a few months later they were not gaining much ground. But losing it. And taking high losses.

Now Putin will continue to attack until the Ukraine can't take anymore losses. Then a brokered peace with Russia will occur, and yes in this peace Russia gets to keep Crimea, the Donbas, the land bridge to Crimea and a few other bits.
