Ukrainian army chiefs are showing off the remarkable destruction of four Russian tanks in as many minutes by a single missile operator. The Sun on Youtube: youtu.be/KyrFB4pvx0s |

What I can't figure out from watching it a few times is why wouldn't the Russian tanks fire against the ATGM signature. Seems that no one was paying attention or in the tanks. |

Well being buttoned up in an AFV does limit your LOS, etc. Been there … done that. Regardless, we know the Russian crew quality is marginal at best. Do they even train or understand the concept … of "ATGM Watch" ? Originally coined by the IDF as "Sagger Watch" IIRC. That being said, a weapon like the US Javelin is fire & forget. You don't have to keep the reticle on the target. Like with the wire guided M47 MAW Dragon or TOW. Been there …done that, in training, etc. at Benning, Campbell, etc. Firing at a fire & forget does not affect the gunner like wire guided. With wire-guided if the gunner is taking fire, and flinches the missile with probably miss. |

Of course, the plan is to fire then may be get the Hell out of Dodge … Move to an alternate or supplemental position and fire again. But maybe if the gunner is not taking effective fire or any fire. The best way to remove a threat(s) is by killing it/them. |

This was posted in the video comments sections if true that's why the ATGM team did not have to bug out. "Ukrainian ATGM Stugna is perfectly suited for the predominating Ukraine landscape and should be properly considered the main weapon of this war. The launcher itself is hidden behind the hill and operated distantly, so both operator and weapon are completely safe from Muscovite attacks and even detection." |

The Stugna is the Ukrainian version of the US Javelin, so to speak … link |

Yes, that was the handiwork of the STUGNA P which is based on a US system, but which allows the controller to be out of sight from launch to impact. For any who might not have noticed, but did and were puzzled by the Arabic characters appearing on the control screen, STUGNA's had been produced pre-war for sale to Middle Eastern clients, but with the advent of the crisis, these were sent straight to the field for domestic use. Oh, and shouldn't we be past the stage of suggesting that video of tanks/AFV's being destroyed are abandoned or already immobilized and being recorded only for propaganda purposes? Weapons like the STUGNA are too few and precious to be squandered on videos forgotten (usually!) by the next day. That was some of the best four minutes of combat video to come out of this war yet--both for edification and gruesome entertainment. SLAVA UKRAINA! TVAG |
