From a perspective of a Marine on the ground in Ukraine. Pretty strong feelings towards the Russians from what he has witnessed. link |

I guess that should be no surprise … their "Fearless Leader"' is a dictator, murderer, committer of war crimes, etc. They are as bad now as they were when they entered Berlin in '45. I guess they learned that from history ? |

Frederick, Napoleon, and Hitler judged them the same. Oh, wait! Joe Collins |

During the first days of the war I felt sorry for the Russian conscripts because I doubted they really wanted to be there. Now I just hope Ukraine kills them all. |

I can empathise with someone sees the behaviour of Russian troops and gets angry. I think rage is a totally normal reaction to such inhumanity. |

Got to agree with Choctaw and Andy … The Russians have used up any compassion, etc., we may have had for their hapless poorly trained & motivated conscripts. Rape, torture, mass murder, etc. … just like Berlin, 1945 … |

Frederick, Napoleon, *Kaiser Wilhem II*, and Hitler. "Quantity has a quality all its own." The Russian soldiers may not be great, but no one has yet made the Russians run out of them. Sad. |

Putin does not realize that he does not have the population that the USSR had. |
Legion 4 | 27 Apr 2022 3:13 p.m. PST |
Well Russia has a larger population than Ukraine AFAIK … But we do see the poor quality of their military. And the proficiency of the Ukrainians. |

Ukraine before the war 41mil, Russia 145mil include Crimea, a little less then half what was under the USSR. |

Yeah I figured that. Russia is a lot bigger than the Ukraine. However, again the Ukrainians are a lot better at soldiering …. |

Hey, Chaps. Remember that most Russian troops are just 'the young lad from 'down the street'. Putin may be bringing in 'crazies' from Chechnia / Syria… and from accounts, DEATH is what THEY WISH FOR… but Russian Troops don't. War brutalises and horrific thing done 'under orders'… that is the way of it. BUT, Every Dead Russian is a Mother's Son… Blame the B*****d who started it. |

Remember that most Russian troops are just 'the young lad from 'down the street'. Actually, it seems that very few ethnic Russians are grunts. They are mostly from poor minorities within Russia. |

But they consider himself Russians. This is Russian phenomena, everybody may be Russian, they must just prove this, like in any criminal gang, with crime. |

Remember that most Russian troops are just 'the young lad from 'down the street'. As are most militaries' ranks. It is how they are trained & lead that makes the difference. But even that does not insure there will not be some "problems", e.g. My Lai. But in most cases those are few & far between. But does not seem the case with the Russians … Most of the troops in my Plt & Co were generally 18-22. War at the front is fought by young men with more testosterone than common sense. They have to be trained, controlled, lead and their violence managed. Been there – done that. Fortunately, the draft was long gone by the time I was and officer. very few ethnic Russians are grunts. They are mostly from poor minorities within Russia. Sounds familiar e.g. the USA in Vietnam … guess the Russians missed that when they studied that conflict. |
