Very nice! May I ask, how do you decide on your flags and how many different flags do you have for your Afghans? To date, I've had one flag with the overall command for 200 tribals, but I was thinking of adding one for each 20 man group.

I decided on the flags based on the flags that were provided with the Perry Afghan Tribal box. I mostly play TMWWBK so each unit is going to have one flag for easy recognition. Here is another one of the flags:

Okay, so you have one per unit. I was thinking along the same lines. Not the same rules. Mind you, but same purpose. Yours came out very nice. I had been grouping by sash color, but flags will make identification much easier. Thank you very much, and thanks again for the inspiration.

I just don't recall seeing lots of flags in use. Thus I don't have near that many for any of my units. My Afghan tribesmen only have one flag for the whole army. In the Sudan, where flags play a major role, I have one flag for each 3 bands. There are even fewer flags for the Egyptian and European colonial units.

With apologies to Neil for a brief sidebar from his excellent figures and their excellent flag, here's a LINK to a post I did back in Summer 2020 on 19th Century Afghan flags, for Paul Collins and/or Col Durnford and/or anyone else who may be interested:

NOTE: Like Neil, I use one flag per "Basic Unit" for my Pathan Tribesmen, and the same for my Afghan Regular Army troops.

Great stuff indeed, and yes thank you MG for resurrecting that thread. That's some awesome data!!!! I do hope Rick the Flag Dude makes some of those for general consumption for us hungry masses.
Cheers,
JB
