Thinking about starting some superhero gaming. We are your thoughts on GURP Supers and Supersystem both the 4th editions? Which one would be better for just starting out?

Gurps is more complex than Supersystem (Four Color Studios) in my opinon. For fast simple games I'd do Supersystem

Second.

Super system as basis, add in flavors from GURPS as needed.

Still a fan of Champions.

That said, the old Marvel Super Heroes system was pretty simple and apparently worked well. There are quite a few fan sites and you can grab rules for them for free. While it's built on Marvel IP, it's not bound to it in any way and there are character creation rules, etc. Classic Marvel Forever: classicmarvelforever.com/cms

Best game out there is SUPER MISSION FORCE

Same author (Scott Pyle) as Super System using same game mechanics. designed to quickly build characters and get games up and running in minimal times.

I've been doing superhero games for many years and this one is unsurpassed!

TSR's advanced marvel superior heroes is a must it system is brilliant and way ahead of its time!
It would stand up against any modern system.
The supplement called
"the ultimate power book"
Is easily the best supplement i have come across ever in any rule set.
If you want to play marvel universe cria 1984 you can't go wrong all the supplements are very good
