Considered attending for the first time and checking it out until I read the vaccine and masking requirements. I wish them all the best.

Fitzovich Supporting Member of TMP21 Apr 2022 3:31 p.m. PST

Seems to be a very reasonable policy and I would like to see more of this from other conventions. I know that will likely not be the case, but Huzzah! to Huzzah 2022.

Covid is not going away. Ever. Likely it is time to let individuals decide if they want to wear a mask or not.

Cardinal Ximenez22 Apr 2022 2:19 a.m. PST

Here is the policy:
"And last but not least (because we know that some of you are wondering), here is our COVID-19 protocol:
We want to make this convention as safe as possible and we want to make sure we do not have to cancel it last minute. Therefore, every badge holder, GM and Vendor will have to show a photo ID and proof of vaccination:
Proof of vaccination can be a physical vaccination card or a digital photograph (fully vaccinated means at least 2 weeks since your Johnson& Johnson or your second Pfizer/Moderna dose for anyone 5 years and older)
If you need an medical exemption, please email us at eventschair@mhwa.info. You will need to be cleared before the convention – no walk ups – and will have to present a negative Covid-Test taken no longer than 72 hours before arriving.
Face Masks must be worn at all times for everyone ages 2 and older
We reserve the right to remove you from the convention if masks are not worn or not worn properly."

I'll be attending, and looking forward to it!

People will never let this go. They've forgotten what it was like before the Wuhan virus. This shyte is smothering the convention gaming scene.

Should be no need for masks if everyone attending is vaccinated, just sayn'

I wouldn't mind showing my card if I didn't have to wear a mask.

14Bore Supporting Member of TMP22 Apr 2022 12:26 p.m. PST

Two years of masking is a hard habit to break, it can be done, just needs willpower.

custosarmorum Supporting Member of TMP22 Apr 2022 4:28 p.m. PST

+1 GreenMountainBoy -- I, too, plan on attending as Huzzah! is my favorite convention.

pzivh43 Supporting Member of TMP22 Apr 2022 4:38 p.m. PST

DeRuyter---why do you say that. I hear about vaxxed folks are getting COVID every day. Current strain also seems to be pretty mild, kind of liek the flu. While no one wants to get sick, this ain't 2020. If it was closer, I would be missing it because of this policy.

Rustycop Retired 201922 Apr 2022 6:36 p.m. PST

Fitzovich, want to mask up then just mask up. I really don't think anyone minds if you do so. No different if someone chooses not to do so. I was watching a Sox game and observed just that. I even think if a GM asked for participants to wear a mask that's not out of line. Just think a COVID Policy will only wind up hurting attendance. I wish them well too know a few guys in the area who attend. TRU makes a valid point look at Recon…..What's the local mandates in Missouri Fitzovich?

TSD10123 Apr 2022 1:33 a.m. PST

Government isn't even fighting the dropping of the mask requirements on airplanes, and a convention wants to enforce that? At this point I think some of you just need to move to the bubble room.

Cardinal Ximenez titles the thread Huzzah! 2022, yet his own opening post decides to express negativity about the vaccine and masking requests without mentioning anything helpful to those interested in attending the convention.

Huzzah! 2022 is scheduled for Thursday May 12th to Sunday May 15th, at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel in South Portland Maine. The convention has near 120 games available across 4 days, and is already on track to be a successful convention. This includes board games, miniature games, ticket raffles for prizes, t-shirts available, and triumphantly returning to meet back up with friends and have some fun!

Yaba Daba do – Wilma I'm off to Huzzah too.

Running 5 events :)

Games Poet just want to point out the policy of the convention regarding vaccination and masking requirements are NOT a request. They are MANDATORY and you are subject to removal. Not unless there are a group of two year old gamers planning to arrive and play in a blocks tournament…….So nothing negative about Cardinals statement. He even wished them the best. As do I. I actually believe he helped them out by posting imagine traveling to the convention unaware of the policy and not being able to attend. So thank you Cardinal for looking out for gamers worldwide.

We can see that via reading the material provided. And anyone coming into the websites to read that material can also know in advance. Plenty of opportunity to do your home work before coming to a convention.

The statement, "I wish them all the best", was questionably sincere when he's not happy about the policy. If he had linked them into the sites, than there'd be no question as to whether or not he's interested in being positive and helpful.

RustyCop,
An interesting if somewhat perplexing reply to my support of the conventions policy and wishing to see more of the same. I suspect that you do not share my opinion on the topic of masking. I will offer these couple of responses to the points you raised in your reply.

1). The convention is in Maine as I understand so whatever protocols there are in the State of Missouri are not germane to any argument pro or con. I have my own thoughts on the policies in Missouri, but again they are not part of the discussion.

2). The convention is free to apply such rules as they choose as long as they do not violate any laws. I agree with the decisions that they have made. Again assuming that you don't as you indicated I am free to mask up, you are free to not attend this or any other convention where you would disagree with the protocols are not to your liking.

3). As to their protocols affecting attendance, well, that is a decision the management of this show has made and I suspect they understand the ramifications of their decision.

4). As to a White Sox Game: Well, I believe that such activities are carried on outdoors which presents a different set of circumstances than an indoor event with a generally older (and hence more vulnerable crowd many with underlying health issues) leaning over tables in close proximity.

Again I do not expect you to agree with my opinion and that is your choice, I however have every right to my opinion and to express it here as long as I do not violate the TOS of this board.

I was just curious what Missouri policy was.

For those wondering, if any, the mask and vaccination policy went over well. To the best of my knowledge only one person showed up without a vaccine card, and opted not to provide and believe he didn't return. There was next to full compliance with mask policy, Friday and Saturday evening being a slight exception by some folks in the side rooms off the main convention area.

Apparently this was a hotel requirement, and signs were hung up across the area. Restaurants in South Portland also had various hours and requirements in force as well.

Additionally, a few game masters ended up catching covid-19 slightly before the convention, and canceled their games as a result. In 2 situations, this effected a dozen games between the two of them, they are long time hobbiests, and they were missed.

Wow, okay then. So I guess you driving me from Logan to HUZZAH 2023 is out of the question. But then again that assumes that I, against your wishes, survive until then.
