…., From Spock to Wesley (Photos)

"In its half-century history, "Star Trek" has challenged us to boldly go where no one has gone before. The best characters have often encouraged vigorous debate among Trekkies, as they are compared by their rank and species and evaluated for differences in their flaws and virtues. The worst -- we're looking at you, "Voyager" and "Enterprise" -- leave fans wondering if there's a point to their existence…."

I'm a fan of the original series. The Next Generation not so much. The character Q was pure idiocy from the start.

More accurate title: 39 Star Trek Characters "Ranked" by a twenty three year old with no particular qualifications other than that he seems to have been successful in avoiding real work. That's if this is his job, if this is a side hustle while he works at WalMart then, well, it's just some random interweb post, right?

Now, if a bunch of friends read this and then have a good old argument about it, that's worthwhile. Otherwise, this is just prattle, right?

I mean, "Enterprise" is included in "Classic" but "Discovery" is not, which by itself tells you this is an article for sixteen year olds.

I appear to be cranky this morning.

Also, Scotty needs to be a few ranks higher.

Thank you Andrew Walters for saving me time. It seems like most articles including the "news" are written by people with no qualifications.

There were websites where I read articles about computers, finances, products, until they started putting photos of the authors on the pages and I realized that these people were all less than half my age. Only then did I notice all the things they left out of their articles, which suggested a lack of life experience and other qualifications. Then I started looking more skeptically at what they actually did include in their articles, then I just started skipping all of those websites.

You really need a lot of skepticism to use the internet successfully.

Thank you for saving me from reading the linked article. I will spend a happier hour watching remastered original series episode on a streaming service.

"You really need a lot of skepticism to use the internet successfully", I agree.

"The character Q was pure idiocy from the start".

Works for those with the belief in a god or gods, e.g. all-powerful beings. Of course, even Q wasn't "all-powerful" since he had his powers removed by others in the collective, or whatever you want to call "the Q" ruling class.

I don't think that the characters should REALLY be ranked across genres, but if you must, the list is clearly wrong.

T'Pol, Hoshi, and Uhura should be upgraded for their performances in the alternate universes.

Sadly, Ensign Rand didn't even make the list, though she should have.

How is Kirk NOT at the top of the list – surely he is far better than Picard or Sisko, except in a PC/woke world, where the "captain" must run his every decision by a committee, instead of taking decisive action on his own.

I agree with Spock at number 2, but only if Kirk is number 1.

Scotty for the number 3 slot – he literally saves the Enterprise and thus the entire crew and TV franchise on a number of occasions (lose the ship to enemy disruptor fire or other weapons, and the series is over in a cataclysmic flash of flame and smoke), and then various others from TOS in the upper slots – showing my bias here, again, which is why you really can't/shouldn't rate them across genres in my opinion.

Archer should be a bit better, since he is in more of the mold of a James T. Kirk than some of the others. Janeway was better than the weakling Picard.

Totally agree with Thresher01; SHATNER'S TOS Kirk is the BEST ST char of all, followed by TOS Spock, TOS Scotty, TOS McCoy, and TOS Kor.
