One has to ask why one would purposely hire religious fanatics whose greatest joy in life is to kill Christians and Jews or die trying and go to their 72 virgins? |

In the miniseries Chernobyl, the effort to contain the contamination requires building a containment structure. In order to do this, the staggeringly radioactive material on the roof must be relocated back into the open reactor building. After several attempts are made to do this remotely, and all have been exhausted, they resort to using "bio-robots," men, to manually shovel the stuff out of the way. To reduce their exposure, they're limited to a once only 90 second interval. Russia is electing to fill uniforms with whomever they can get. A Syrian or a Chechen or an Ossetian can stop a bullet every bit as well as a Russian, and employed as security "in the rear with the gear" they can free Russians up for front line service. And, if they are more than usually (insert whatever euphemism for "brutal" you prefer) to the citizenry than the residents have been subjected to so far,… …oh well. |

It is better to have foreigners killed than your own citizens. Just like the French Foreign Legion when it was formed. |

Yet again, "the Syrians are coming". I have heard that since April 29… The vaunted Syrian CQB fighters. But have they showed up yet? I highly doubt their skills and tactical training. They were not very impressive in their homeland, why should they excel in Ukraine. More like cannon fodder, soak up bullets claiming the right of way. Since the BTG:s are short on manpower and "should" operate with a screen of local paramilitary forces I understand why the foreign fighters are useful. I just don't think they are good enough or motivated enough. Same with the Wagner tropes. They are all ex russia military, why should they be better than the current troops? What kind of mystical training have they received that they did not have during their service? |

It's a win-win situation. Syrians and Palestinians are worth more in mother russia's war against its 'little brother' Ukraine than in their own wars in Syria and Palestine. They are probably even better fighters than russians. Which doesn't seem to be too much of an accomplishment, though. Tens of thousands of Syrians enlisting to fight alongside Russia in Ukraine war On the other hand, fewer russian mothers have to mourn dead sons rotting in Ukrainian fields. Left behind by their comrades. Palestinians may even be told by recruiters, as a special job incentive, that they can kill Jews because Zelenski is Jewish or some such nonsense. Who knows. The day when the first Jewish Ukrainian Holocaust refugees fled to Germany (!!!) from the russian war against Ukraine, I realized that anything is possible. In twist of history, Holocaust survivors fleeing Ukraine find safety in Germany I'm waiting for the mercenaries to fight for their own agendas among themselves, when there are more of them employed on BOTH sides. Oh, and where are the Serbs? They were always fun back then. |

Again…. I think until they actually turn up it anyone's guess what they achieve. My Wild Ass guess is that they will be told by a Russian officer shouting slowly and loudly in Russian, which everyone knows is the best to communicate with foreigners, to drive slowly down the road toward the Nazis, without deviating, to link up with the other 17 columns they sent down the same road. At which point if they are as brilliant a soldiers as advertised and have seen anything other than Russian propaganda they'll quietly desert! |

Hey, we called them "contractors" in Afghanistan. They are just people/numbers that you don't need to add to the war dead totals. |

Free ticket out of Syria to the west. Arrive , get paid, desert or surrender to the Ukrainians head to that sweet sweet welfare state in Germany, Yay team. |

…the Israelis are laughing! |

If & when they arrive in numbers mentioned, they will be used as fodder. Just like Putin uses his own troops. They will be fighting "infidels" for the most part. So if they get killed, and many will, they go to "Paradise". So it's a "win-win" for them. They are probably even better fighters than russians. Which doesn't seem to be too much of an accomplishment, though. So very true … get paid, desert or surrender I see that occurring in some cases. Plus the Syrian & Palestinians are not known for their military prowess. At least by Western standards. But they have weapons and they can still kill … the Israelis are laughing! Yep ! How ever many of these "desert warriors" get killed is that many less the IDF has to worry about. |

@mad monkey 1 Charming idea. Thanks for the hint. Have to talk to the Poles, they sort them out. |

Yes, the US did inflict some heavy losses on Wagner Grp in Syria. They are rated by some better than the Russian Army, but again that does not take much. They seem to do well vs Mid Easterners and Africans, IIRC. But verses the Ukrainians … again my $ is on them not Wagner Grp. |

Secretary of the National Security and Defence Council Oleksiy Danilov said that the Armed Forces of Ukraine has killed a detachment of Libyans and Syrians in the Luhansk region… Ukrainian Pravda: link |

Not exactly a game changer on that showing! Though they could frankly have been anyone. I'd make wild guess guess they might possibly have been existing Wagner employees. Since the company has operated in both localities. Ukraine alleges they've lost hundred of employee's already. |
Legion 4 | 22 Apr 2022 1:00 a.m. PST |
Libyans, Syrians or Wagner Grp … They are de facto Russian troops as we know. Attrition of Russian Forces is how the Ukrainians will win. |

Well if any of this is true it would suggest that Putin and his cronies are recognizing that KIA and MIAs well have negative effect on his reign at home. Better to use mercenaries, problem is how to pay for them. |
Legion 4 | 25 Apr 2022 1:31 p.m. PST |
Yes, I'm sure that is part of it. Plus, his own Infantry, etc. not being well trained, lack motivation & leadership at all levels. I'm sure he is hoping these mercs from the Mid East will be "better" … or just more fodder. The Wagner Group's ranks have many former Russian Spec Ops, e.g. Spetsnaz, etc. have no real loyalty to Putin or Russia. Plus some others from Eastern Europe(?), etc., AFAIK. They are just doing "jobs" they are "skilled" in. Save for, as always, the few psychopaths, etc. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spetsnaz As well as Putin has mobile field crematoriums to make many KIAs into MIAs … As many families were very upset with the loses of their sons, brothers, etc. in A'stan. |
