Gives a 'ball park' of the committed forces. Looks to be about 65 Battalion Tactical Groups

Given that the 'typical' Battalion Tactical Group seems to be 1 Tank Company and 2-4 MR Company. Just how many of these have been 'abused' if you start comparing reported loses vs 10 tanks per company.

There are now 76 Russian battalion tactical groups in the Donbas region of Ukraine and in the country's southeast. About 11 of those were added over the last several days, a senior Defense Department official said today.

And another 22 being resupplied/refitted. Plus 12 or so at Mariupol, and others in southern Ukraine.

The Russian military is pretty much 'all in' against a much weaker but more determined neighbor. This feels a lot like when Mussolini broke the Italian army on the mountains of Greece in 1940.

Looking at the 'estimate' of 400+ tank losses (killed/abandoned/broken) that were not recovered that is 40 BTG or so worth of tanks and a portion of their crews.

or 10+ Battalions of tanks or more than a Soviet era Tank Division.

And, are there only 10 tanks or IFVs/APCs per company, or 13 and 12, respectively?

IIRC considering they started this conflict with around 120 BG, & now have committed a little over 80, this sounds about right in terms of tank losses, plus or minus (probably plus).

Damon.

Thresher: Basing it on the old Soviet model of 10 per company. IIRC there were 12 in Tank Companies of MRR Tankk battalions.

Just using it as a measuring stick.

Yes, a Soviet Tank Co. was 1 Cmd Tank + 3 Plts of 3 tanks = 10. Their Tank Cos were smaller than NATO's …

Good link Saber 6, I posted it before IIRC.

The BTG has as many FA Btys. as it does Inf Cos. – 3 of each. With only one Tank Co. However, a good Cdr with well trained & motivated troops can make this effective. But seems the Russians don't have that.
