Looking for some specific flags for New Market in 28mm. I assume the VA Regts will be very similar to one another? GMB has some but to the exact Regts.

I would not assume the Confederates had similar flags. The Confederate command at New Market was cobbled together from different commands with different flag histories.

Imboden's cavalry brigade that had been serving in the Shenandoah Valley and had connections with the Army of Northern Virginia. Absent better information I would assume these troops, including the 62 Mounted Virginia infantry, had ANV battle flags.

It also contained Echols and Wharton's brigades from southwestern Virginia. Troops in the southwestern Virginia command were known to have been issued Virginia state flags into 1864. Absent better information I would assume the 2 regiments and 3 battalions drawn from the southwestern Virginia command were carrying Virginia state flags.

The VMI cadets almost certainly carried the flag of their school.

I agree with Bill N. The 22nd Va, 23rd Va Bn, 26th Va Bn, 30th Va Bn SS and 51st Va all used Va state flags. The VMI cadets carried their white VMI flag.

The other units probably carried variations of the ANV pattern flag. Of these only the flag of the 18th Va Cav still exists. It measures 36 x 32 inches (height x width) in size with a red field and dark blue St. Andrew's cross. The cross, with 11 white stars, is not edged in white (as was found on other ANV patterns) although the flag itself has white edges on all four sides.

Having spent a year at VMI (as a Yankee transplant) here is a question I was frequently asked.

Who won the Civil War?

Answer:
VMI with the help of the Confederacy.

The idea that one smallish battle doesn't make the wars results, or the actual impact of the Keydets during the battle. These are minor points that can be ignored when talking about the only open field battle fought by a unit of cadets in the western hemisphere.
