One of the hardest parts or rule writing is being precise, particularly for new starters. We decided we needed to define what a support weapon was as opposed to a heavy weapon.

This is our first attempt, anny help regarding these definitions would be a help.

Support weapon – These are infantry weapons that are not an infantry personal weapon and may need more than one man to carry additional ammunition. The squad machine gun, be it one or two man typically has additional rounds carried by the squad or fire team as a whole. Heavier support weapons such as two man machine guns operating with a bipod for support fall into this category.

Heavy Weapons – typically require 2 crew as an infantry weapon and require to be set up before use, for examples a Sustained Fire Machine Guns mounted on a tripods, In addition they require a plentiful supply of ammunition pre-dumped or supplied by troops allocated specifically to supplying additional ammunition to them. Vehicle mounted heavy weapons may only require a single crew as they have plentiful ammunition close at hand.

Heavy weapon – when you pick it up and go "kin'ell!"…

I'd think support weapons are integral to the squad while heavy weapons are organized separately but often attached to a squad.

You'll generally find heavy weapons in the Weapons Platoon or Weapons Company of the unit.

I think a Support Weapon is any weapon not integral to the unit which is attached to support it, including from Combat Engineers.
