This project has been on the go for many years now. First in an attempt, interrupted by illness and a a four to five year hiatus away from the hobby, to put on a Fornovo game which, to be honest, at the time I had little chance of achieving. As my interest moved much more towards the Spanish in Italy he goal was then to changed from that of Fornovo 1495 to that of Cerignola 1503 or Ravenna 1512.

I have a real Horde of Shame when it comes to models for The Italian Wars still to to paint up, Steel Fist, Wargames Foundry, The Assault Group and many more but despite suffering from a debilitating mental illness which at time has taken me away from the hobby I love so much I have managed to make what is at least a start on first the Italians (Gonzaga Vignette) and tackled a couple of unit of Spanish and a gun so, as I have done with my Anglo Danes and Early Byzantines I am going to tally up what I have so far in one post.

If it wasn't for the illness and the time taken up in therapy added to putting that therapy into practice there would be much more to show for this project.

The Italian Wars have long been a favourite of mine. One just cannot beat the period for colour and spectacle.

There are many more pictures of each unit from various viewpoints on my Just Add Water Blog here:

Magnificent. Puts my old Italian Wars stuff to shame.

I presume that's the "car park Richard III" figure coming out of the Taro?

The Flags are all from Petes Flags- the very best for the Early Renaissance and especially The Italian Wars.

I must have been having a bad day yesterday as I forgot the Stradiots!

So….

Stradiots

I thought of the Richard III figure coming out of the carpark, too. Then I looked closely and saw he was coming out of the water. Oh, well.

1. It is nice to find out I was right.
2. That is an incredible idea for making use of an unusual figure that was pretty much intended as a joke!
Congratulations!

Your painting is perfect! The early Italian Wars are one of my favorite periods. You do justice to the period. The diorama of Francesco Gonzaga is wonderful! Three cheers and three hurrahs!

Thank you ever so much Chris [blushes]- the problem is, I need a French and a League of Venice armies to go with it LOL.

I'm sure I'll get there one day! I'm concentrating on a maximum of just three projects at a time to try to reach my goals!

Funny you should mention needing more, i was thinking the Vignette is awesome, but only three riders, you could have at least made an effort to create at least a stretch of the river with a few dozen riders crossing!!LOL.

I'm trying to organise a Ital Wars campaign sometime this year at the club, so no doubt it will be then.
