Another successful Seven Years War Association convention concluded this past weekend. I ran two SYW skirmish games (Friday and Saturday afternoons) and there was a nice variety of games spanning the period from Poltava through the American Revolutionary War. My understanding is that we had approximately 100 visitors over the two day convention, which is about normal for this show. My personal highlight was meeting the famous and honorable John The OFM at the show and even rolling dice against him on the table top. Click on the link to my blog to read the full report, including lots and lots of pictures: link Here is a picture of my skirmish game at the convention.

A really great AAR! Totally agree on the bakery being a tactical objective with strategic consequence! I have been tracking down info on period bakeries with some success but not one where Austrians led the way in portable filed bakeries – the envy of the French and Prussians. The Heer Museum in Vienna sent me some drawings of the one you have pictured, along with the special purpose wagon for transporting the iron pieces. Still, they admitted that they had not dug deep into period documents of that time. I shot a picture of a portable oven supposedly from the period of SYW but have been unable to learn more about it, while I was in Germany. Black Hussar is definitely THE source for setting the scene for a bakery. Sadly, only in 28mm (Great if you only game in 28mm I guess.) In any case, your article was just more ammo for me to attend a SYW con on my bucket list! Thanks for taking the time to write and share it. link link |

I played in the Saturday version of DAF's game. I enjoyed the game, and the convention, very much. A long ride to and from South Bend, but I'd do it again. Eric |

I couldn't make it this year. I picked up one of Ed's bakeries last year. |

So how did you like the Shako variant? I have seen a lot of tries at modification and all have their differences. The idea that once in line you have to stay in line is more from Tactica, which is an ancient rule set from the same author. |

Dammit! I missed John the OFM. I would have gone out of my way to meet him in person, but I had no idea he was there. Hopefully next year. - Ix |

As ever, I had a good time, and met more familiar faces I've somehow missed hanging out with before. Mike Wedding's GoL game is an evergreen highlight for me, and always an inspiration. I'll be running AWI games at the next few club meetings. - Ix |

Great convention write up. I have been telling myself that I need to go to this for years. It is such a long drive, almost half way across the country. |
