I just finished reading LotR rules and wandering if anybody adopted the rules for Trojan War. Do you think it is a good idea? Thanx. |

Yes, I think it is a good idea. I was thinking along those lines myself... :-) |

Sounds like a great idea! When are we going to see your adaptation in print? The Siege part of the rules are really "Assault the Walls" rules, and you have to allow for chariots and chariot dismounts. Remember that Diomedes os 2-0-1 vs the Gods! Also remember to nag Black Tree Design to finish his Trojan range and ad chariots, and gods. Keep your fingers crossed that Old Glory releases THEIR range at Cold Wars, as promised. |

Rus the owner of Old Glory told me at last year's Historicon that they were in the pipeline, after Belisarian Byzantines. Well, Belisarian Byzantines came out a little while ago. I suggested a companion set of rules, gods and goddesses. He smiled enigmatically. Maybe he was just trying to get rid of me. :) If not, there are (expensive) Redoubt figures, and (very expensive) Foundry. Also QT from Amazon Miniatures. Patience, grasshopper...... |

Well, as they say, great minds think alike. Myself and a couple of friends have been umming and ahhing over this exact thing for the past month. It seems to me that the way might, will and faith work is absolutely perfect for representing the influence of the Gods. We spoke to Rob at Warhammer Ancients about this idea and he agrees. Unfortunately he can't touch the rules system. Although GW created the game, the rights are owned by New Line and GW can't market anything else with it. So much for getting someone else to do all the work for us :-) With the rules from Two Towers it's great, as has already been mentioned, there are already wall assaulting rules. There are also rules for javelins which is useful. The only big thing to add is chariots. |

I think the Lord of the Rings game is a great set of rules. However there is a little known set of skirmishing rules lurking in Warhammer Ancient Battles supplement "Fall of the West". I used a watered down (didn't use all of the rules) version of these rules last night in a skirmish game set in 5th Century Britian. We played with 200pt and fielded about 24 or so models each. It was great :) It should be easy enough to do this for the Trojan wars in WAB since they have already put out their "Chariot Wars" supplement (a few years ago) and it has a fairly detailed list for the Greeks and the Trojans. All you need to do is to go over the skrimish rules and off you go- no real need to make new stats... it's all done. I would recommend that you break out your copy of Warhammer Fantasy, 6th edition, (if you have it) and check out page 242 which has an even more detailed set of skirmish rules. This rules set is completely compatible with WAB and is much more fleshed out than the bare bones set in "Fall of the West". However, if you do have the time and willingness to do it I'm sure the Lord of the Rings system would make an excellent platform 'historical' and 'mythical' skirmishing :) Who knows, maybe the guys at WAB will get their hands on the rules for LOTR and write us up a new book :) :) :) |

Oh, as a touch of irony, I just found out that Orlando Bloom (Elf boy in LOTR) and Sean Bean (Boromir- but will always be Richard Sharpe to me) are going to be in a movie about the Trojan War. The sites that I've seen have placed Bloom as Paris and Bean as Odysseus. The movie is currently looking at a possible 2004 release. Here are some links: link link |

Using the LOTR rules would be great for ancient and/or medieval skirmishes. Mike Siggins already mentioned this in Wargames Illustrated, when the rules where just in the stores. A movie on the Trojan War is something I always wanted to see. Very curious at the result... |
