"The mission of the American Heritage Museum is to bring visitors an immersive experience in history to give a greater appreciation for those who lived it and an excitement to learn more. For the ultimate immersive experience, the American Heritage Museum is offering YOU the opportunity to ride aboard or even DRIVE a real tank from World War II… the M24 Chaffee Light Tank or the M4A3 Sherman Medium Tank! Being a crew member or driving a tank is not particularly comfortable. These metal beasts are all business, designed to go over most obstacles with ease and destroy anything in its path. Once in a tank, it is clearly evident you are driving a machine with great power. When you're in a tank, things don't happen to you – You happen to them!…" More here link Armand |

I am very impressed. I have taken flights in the Collings Foundation B-17 and B-24. To see what these folks have done as they absorbed much of the Littlefield collection, how they have built up their museum and their programs, and now to see that they are offering rides in some of the tanks … I am very impressed.
I consider a lot of those vehicles to be "old friends". It is good to see they have gone to a good home, and are being put to good use. Many thanks for the link, Armand. -Mark (aka: Mk 1) |

I got to ride in the B-24 for 2.5 hours total, and my son in the B-17 for helping out as ground crew when they were at Buchanan Air Field in Concord, CA. My wife's dad was a radio/radar man in Navy B-24 (PBY) flying out of Guadalcanal and they let her ride for free sitting in the same seat as her dad did. I got to visit the Littlefield Collection before it was sold off. I've been talking to the Collings Foundation people about sponsoring a war game convention at their facility that can take up to 400 people.
I hope to visit there this summer now that I'm closer. Wolfhag |
