"While anthropologists cannot pinpoint one reason tattooing began or held fast over the course of humanity, one reason tattooing persists is to signify a warrior. The tradition of tattooing is a mainstay in American military history, from the Revolution to today.

The age-old practice of tattooing can be found on mummies dating as far back as 4000 B.C. Cultural anthropologists attribute the spread of tattooing or body-marking culture to a variety of human traits, ranging from religion to magic to experience and memory…."

I thought you were going to talk about the music played at the end of the day in camp. Tattooing began in ancient Egypt since the women didnt have mascara.

I've never liked the idea of them. However, I think we could do society a great favor if everyone had their IQ tattooed on their forehead. That way you'd have a good idea of knowing who you are dealing with and act accordingly.

Wolfhag,
My senior drill instructor, both Korean War and Vietnam Veteran told us that if the Marine Corps had wanted us to
have a tattoo they would have issued us one!

My go to advice has been that the only people who should have a tattoo are sailors (or perhaps Royal Marines – I know a few from my mis-spent youth who were pretty proud of their Royal Marine tats)

One time I called home and told my mom I got a tattoo of a battleship on my chest. She didn't find the joke funny.

To come to think of it I do have a small tattoo. I don't think you want to see it as it is inside my colon. They marked the spot during a colonoscopy. My wife told me I'm looking at it all of the time.
