I have not seen anyone make the comparison yet. Russian armor lined up on roads through the woods, being picked off by Finish ski troops, inept tactics and leadership, a "ruthless" dictator stopping at nothing to take a sliver of land…. high casualties, but in the end the Finns had to cede land.

A pretty good analogy … hopefully history won't repeat itself.

Within the first few days, news outlets were using terms like mottiying the Russian columns.

Or perhaps Napoleon's Russian Campaign in reverse, if the Russian army collapses…

in 1812 the sanitary disaster was also an important explanation of the losses (as in all campaigns of that period) and above all a big difference : France and Russia presented similar size and military strenght, they played in the same "league" counting 3 clubs with the Austrian Empire,
so nothing to do with Finland Soviet Union or Russia Ukraine and such David and Goliath'wars even if the first nuclear power on earth the Russian bear could be appeared again as a giant with feet of clay

in 1940 there was also an important support to Finland from several countries like for Ukraine, but contrary to NATO today or British reluctancy to intervene in 1940 the Soviets Russians have narrowly escaped to losses caused by French Air Force if the Armistice was not concluded in march 1940, because the French bombers were in route to Scandinavia when they learned it, and an expeditionary force from Alpine Chasseurs was already gathered at the time of the Soviet Finland armistice, Training Artillery Advisors had been sent directy to assist the Finnish Army previously

Well FWIW Finland was thinking about joining NATO. They don't want history to repeat itself, I'd think.
