Three naïve watercolors by Jean-Pierre Duroux, carabinier au 3e bataillon du 14e régiment d'infanterie légère.
From 1808 through 1810, this unit was part of the garrison of Rome.

--- blue short-tailed habit with white edging, red collar, red cuff flaps edged white and brass buttons
--- red epaulettes with white crescents
--- blue trousers
--- black gaiters edged red with red tassels
--- white vest with two rows of apparently white-metal buttons
--- briquet with brass hilt, black scabberd and whitened sling, no swordknot
--- shako apparently wrapped with a red "flamme", white cords and knots, large brass "flaming grenade" badge and tall red center-front mounted plume, with u-shaped red retainer/mount

Common in some arenas/ regiments predominantly through the Republican-early Empire periods. Often also just a single cord to front, often unbraided, the 'tassle' attached at cockade top left just a 'symbol' without connection to the cords.
