Hello, I would be happy to build a collection of miniatures for the Conan universe. I don't mind so much the scale as it would be for RPG. Anything really inspiring I should really check out? thank you |

Look back on the marketplace. There is a member that post about figures from the movie every few months. I can't remember his name. As others have said most any of the top fantasy lines would be good. Also, you may want to look at Old Glory for some historical lines to fill out the rank and file. |

ah right, all good ideas. Maybe I could look at the frostgrave plastic ranges. But they are a tiny bit too modernish for the world I envision. |

Robert Howard used various historical empires/peoples to make up his fantasy nations. You could use various historical miniatures for general troops. Cheery pick various fantasy models you like the look of. Paskal is a member that has been trying to sell some of his Forge of Doom miniatures. I've never seen these figures in person but I've been to their website (Facebook page I think). They're clearly inspired by the 1980s movie. I like the look but not the price. YMMV. |

For what it is worth: I think I will get my characters on Etsy, there are many sculpts that look the part. For the NPCs, the regulars will be well served by the plastic Ancient ranges from Victrix (Dacians and Numidians). For the Barbarians tribes, I am still looking, but the ones from Fostgrave might look the part. Still open to more ideas, it seems there is a lot more than I initially thought. Cheers! |

Howard stole from all the exciting parts of history. There are Cossacks (Khozaki) Ancient Egyptians (Stygians) Afghan tribesmen (Afghulis) Bedouin tribesmen (Shemitish nomads) knights in plate armor, pirates in floppy-brimmed hats and right down the line. I wouldn't hesitate for a moment to use Hurons or Mohawks for Picts, or recruit Zulus for Kushites. Buy your major characters on Etsy, and maybe long-running NPCs, but go cheap for the sword fodder of the week. You'll want a lot of them, and they'll change out pretty frequently. |

Your best buy would be the Conan board game from Monolith. You get 75 figures in the basic game. They are about 32mm You can get them from Amazon for about $100. USD I have an extra copy of the basic game I could let go for cheaper. I guess you thinking of playing the Modiphius Conan rpg? link |

I second the Conan game by Monolith. You'll get a ton of great looking miniatures and get a board game that is also great. So a win win. |

Yes, thank you Inari, that's a good idea, but shipping overseas will probably be a killer. I might get it from someone at the boardgame club not using it. I'll ask around. We have a lot of the supplements from Modiphius but for the rules, we might switch to "Barbarians of Lemuria" which are simpler for my Z^!*@ lazy players :) |

Yes, you should be able to find a copy overseas for a decent price. Have fun!! |

For Cimmerians I went with generic barbarians, Germanic types in furs and, I believe, a Viking or two. |

North Star has a not-Conan figure in the Frostgrave line and a Pirate Conan in the Ghost Archipelago line. |

In 15mm : Crom's Anvil from CP Models Copplestone Castings Barbarica Xyston Historicals from Scotia Grendel All three mix perfectly to provide an excellent mix of fantasy and historical elements for Conan. Beautiful detail in all three that easily rivals 28mm. |

You can get the old Lin Carter supplement on "Royal Armies of the Hyborean Age" on Drivethrurpg as a PDF, which was a miniatures gaming supplement for wargaming Conan, circa late 1970s. It gave a good breakdown on historical and quasi-historical figures to use for various armies |

Heritage produced a Conan line back in the 70s and 80s. They show up on ebay pretty regularly, but they're pricey, true 25s and stylistically dated. You'll play hell getting a workable substitute for Tharks, so these may be unavoidable. You could review the Lost Minis Wiki page to view the Heritage Castings for substitution ideas. |

Tharks? That's John Carter and Burroughs. I own those and Red Martians from the old Black Hat range in 15mm. Lovely figs. Thanks John |

Thanks all for the support and advice. I also found a good source where they explain the different armies one can encounter: link So eventually, I settled for a few sprues (not the entire boxes) of the following ranges, part for the RPG and part because they should be fun painting. Mantic Clansmen (will be used for primitive in the northern area) Victrix: Numidian infantry (light multipurpose infantry). I took enough to have middle eastern version and "greek" version Iberian cavalry (same purpose) Dacians: I will use them as advanced civilized eastern army Early Roman auxiliaries: same but separated in two – multipurpose chain mail light infantry but western type and scout infantry with wolves pelts on Naked fanatic gauls: to be modded and painted as something generic, terrifying and wild Germanic warriors: Generic barbarians (maybe picts?) Vikings: because because Fireforge: Byzantine auxiliaries: because they can provide heavy archers, light archers and some levies Byzantine Koursores: to provide heavy advanced cavalry Medieval Russian Infantry: for regular heavy advanced infantry The only things I feel are missing are: -Mongol type ridders (not a big fan of fireforge's) -Pirates As for the main characters and nemeses, I am still looking for a decent range on Etsy so they can have a unified look. Really happy about my day's research and the upcoming project! |

Privateer Press did a limited edition range of R.E. Howards miniatures. Do a Google image search for "Conan Minicrates". Unfortunately they tend to go for stupid prices on ebay. They are quite big about 32mm iirc, I've got the "Conan on the Throne" somewhere. Going to paint it as a gift for someone :) |
