I have a few sources of info on the above but none that tells me what the uniform and horse furniture of a mounted officer would have looked like. Does anyone have this info? Also, the Cent Jours website reckons Dutch sergeants had one chevron and corporals two. Has he got that right? In every other army I can think of, more senior = more chevrons, not fewer. Appreciate any info – I have Haythornthwaite, Adkin etc but no source that explicitly addresses the above. |

Guys, much obliged. @ Prince – the captions say the sergeants had the chevrons on both sleeves so I guess this is the difference versus corporals, presumably by inference on only one @ Dave – is that site legit?? |

All NCO's had chevrons on both sleeves. Those of the corporals were yellow (or white), those of the sergeants ans above gold (or silver) as in the French Army. Missing is the Fourier, who had the sergeant's chevrons placed above the elbow. The horse furniture for mounted officiers was not regulated until 1819. Dutch officers of staff and foot branches would wear something like Prussian officers, Belgian ones more likely a French pattern. |
