Ok, old topic, but still current apparently.

2 Eldar warlocks 90 Au

1 Eldar farseer…25 Au

Both plastic kits.

Please explain.

It's not even based on points, as (I assume) a farseer is worth more, game wise, than a warlock.

Obviously there would be other what thes, but I saw this one and thought it worth commenting.

When you can get assembled bones and the like from 3-4 Au, even metal figures for a fraction of the 45 Au warlock price.

I know your paying for brand here.

It's not moulding, as they would each take about the same plastic, and mould size. Besides I'd assume most would buy more warlocks than farseers, hence the two in a box, so they aren't making and selling more farseers to justify their cheaper price.

So on…

PS, why not just use farseers as warlocks??

Clearly, have NOT had enough of the GW Kool-Aid…….

The H Man09 Mar 2022 2:55 a.m. PST

Not since this lunacy.

Seriously though, any ideas why figures are so different in price?

I thought maybe the farseer is an older model, so it's a bit (yeah, like half the price!!) cheaper?

Clearly some people are paying these prices. I guess, again, it's the brand. Like spending hundreds of dollars on sneakers.

No, I'm still convinced GW aren't just ripping people off and there has to be some logic behind it, other than a shameless cash grab. But I am still none the wiser.

How many warlocks vs farseers would you expect to field in a game? If there are only one or two warlocks, but loads of farseers, then the potentail sales would be lower. Hence the revenue lower but the fixed costs very similar. So the individual product price is higher, to compensate. It's why command packs are more expensive per figure – you don't sell as many but they cost the same to put in to production

GW pricing is:

f() = ([Game power + Base Size] * Cool) / Army Model Count

I worked it out in the 90's that GW minis were priced at 10 cents per point. Sounds like it's a dollar a point now… ;-)

GW's pricing is fine, I just don't buy anymore their models and books.

What if historicals had the machinery and resources of GW? Imagine.

@Mr. Elmo: A simpler formula would be f() = [Reasonable Price] x 9.7

They are just ripping you off plain and simple!
Again worked this out around 1990!
Really do your self a favor and spend your money on something else!

Unfortunately, I don't think kids will care what is said, however truthful.

The only way to get people away from one comp is to make another one that is cooler. Unfortunately in reality it is a Coke/Pepsi situation, not Highlander.

Manic and Warlord, and others have done their best, but like magnetic poles there will always be Ying and Yang.
