Some have inquired about the exact size of the Epic Scale Waterloo miniatures. They seem to be 13.5mm just like the Civil War range. They are definitely smaller than 15mm, enough to be noticeably different if you tried to mix them. And as expected, they are also noteably larger than 10mm by a good deal, again would be obvious if you tried to mix them.

Here's some side by side photos:

Thanks for posting, and nice work on your ACW figures.

Did you prime them black and then do a white dry brush?

@79th Pa, thanks for the feedback, much appreciated!

@45div, yeah I spray primed them in black with a rattle can, and then did a Zenithal dry brush. I'm currently using Citadel Contrasts over it.

It's working pretty well, but the finsish is a bit rougher than I anticipated. I think for the rest of my Waterloo sprues I'm going to use an airbrush instead, and do a pass of gray followed by a pass of white. Will be much smoother. The manual dry brushing creates kind of a gritty look that I think would bother some modelers. In this scale however, the final result is still prettey decent when they are all ranked up together.

One of the reasons I went the rattle can route is that I didn't feel like setting up my airbrush so I just decided to experiment.

For all my Epic Scale Civil War, those were all spray primed in solid white with a rattle can and then I used Citadel Contrasts over that. Solid white primer is great to use under the Contrast paints.

I'm using a similar technique to a fellow on Youtube who runs a channel called "Miniature Realms." He's got a great channel and has all kinds of useful tutorials for painting Epic Scale.

Here's a link to his video where he paints some Waterloo British:

Thank you for the scale definition. I just measured several of my old Heritage 15mm ACW figures and they are 13.5mm from the soles of their shoes to their eyes. I only want to fill in a few blank spaces, but it now appears that the Epic figs might do the job.

Alternative Armies are detailing their Brickdust 15mm Napoleonics on TPM today. This is a vintage range and are listed as True 15mm. This is a very interesting range of figures and they have an additional attraction for those of us who have the Epic Battles figures. I use Brickdust to fill in gaps in the Warlord range for example there are no higher command figures in the Epic Battles range. I have Brickdust British and French Generals, and I use their cavalry command as escorts, aides and messengers. I also use the infantry command groups to make a command group for infantry brigades/divisions. Although the figures are a veteran range they are well made and good sculpts. They are also good value for money.
Service from Alternative Armies is excellent and at the moment they are offering a discount on all orders. Well worth looking at.
